Witchcraft books - Fairies by Yoshitaka Amano

For those of the video game scene, Yoshitaka Amano may be a familiar name. He virtually illustrated every Final Fantasy game and some other RPGs. There is also a compilation of his works involving the Final Fantasy series called The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy which is composed of 3 books full of magic and magical creatures from the Final Fantasy universe. I’ll still write a post about this compilation!

Fairy Magic – Entering the Fairy World of Yoshitaka Amano

A very interesting sentence contained in the book says:

“You cannot paint fairies without entering their world and believing in them.”

And this is the purest truth.

You cannot paint fairies without entering their world and believing in them - Yoshitaka Amano
You cannot paint fairies without entering their world and believing in them.

Once you believe in them and allow yourself to cross the border between our worlds, the richness and beauty of fairy magic are exposed to us and we get wrapped in this dimension full of magic and inspiration.

The book Fairies is not a grimoire and does not teach to cast any fairy spells. In turn, the book brings illustrations of various fairies and folkloric creatures from Ireland and Great Britain and, along with the illustrations, short stories and texts on each one.

So, expect to find in this book fairies present in Shakespeare plays, good fairies, mischievous fairies, dangerous fairies (!), goblins, gnomes and more!

Fairy Magic – Get to know a little of the content of the book Fairies

The book Fairies contains in its final section the criteria for selection of the fairies that were illustrated:

  1. The fairies unique to the folklore of the five regions of the British Isles;
  2. The fairies of Celtic Mythology;
  3. The fairies of the Legend of King Arthur;
  4. The distinctive fairies that appear in the plays of Shakespeare.

Therefore, the content of the book is very vast and inspiring. Below, I will put the content of some pages and a brief explanation of the fairies portrayed. Click or touch the images to enlarge.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

“In the wood of Athens, young people fall in love picking hawthorne buds at dawn for the rite of May.”

“The Kind Fairies: Seelie Court” and “The Mischievous Fairies: Pixies”

Seelie Court is a “group” of good and happy fairies, but don’t make them mad! The Pixies are mischievous but are also good.

Mermaids are half woman and half fish. Gwragedd Annwn are from Welsh Folklore, they can live in lakes and rivers.
